Had big plans for a solid day of work today. Got a really good running start at it, too. Then tradies happened. And more tradies happened. So many tradies happened that I missed a video conference. And I had to the video conference later.
And the hell of it was, THE TRADIES WERE NOT EVEN DUE TODAY.
I now find myself at the end of the day wondering whether to try and work for a few hours tonight to catch up. Or to admit defeat and retire from the field.
I got a new gig where I got to work from home full time last year which is a) bliss but b) occasionally a fucking nightmare because every mofo seems to interpret "working from home" as "you're at home all day and therefore ARE FREE TO DO ALL THE THINGS THAT ARE NOT WORK RELATED DURING WORKING HOURS."
They're not even supposed to be here! (Hat tip to Dante Hicks and Clerks)
That is the worst. What, they just showed up and said that it was either today or 15 years from never? I don't know if anyone has ever been brave enough to tell a tradie that now is not a convenient time.
Would it be quality work? And I'd just like to point out that I'm "working" right now. I manage about a sentence, then drift off to some distraction. Then wrangle myself back again for another pitiful few words. I figure that it's better than nothing, and means that I'm that much closer to having it done.
Must be some unspoken law betwixt tradies with regards to their timekeeping and our general use of GMT.
I’d give it a miss tonight JB. No matter how hard you try to concentrate, the fact that the tradies showed up today will be tugging to gain the attention of your thoughts.
Well I have heard their chief weapon is surprise.
Surprise and fear....
i need tradies to show up at my place but they sound like they are all at your place. Stop hoarding them JB!
Yeah, this can be a thing. The worst is when they're scheduled, and you're waiting around, and they no-show.

Not even due today? How perplexing.
