Well I have heard their chief weapon is surprise.

Surprise and fear....

Yeah, this can be a thing. The worst is when they're scheduled, and you're waiting around, and they no-show.

That’s what I expect. That I can deal with.

I got a new gig where I got to work from home full time last year which is a) bliss but b) occasionally a fucking nightmare because every mofo seems to interpret "working from home" as "you're at home all day and therefore ARE FREE TO DO ALL THE THINGS THAT ARE NOT WORK RELATED DURING WORKING HOURS."

I have this...um..."problem" where I have 50 something people who can give me work to do, but they, and especially the corner office peeps, all assume I'm very busy doing stuff for one of the other 50, and as such, not only do they consider it an imposition on my time to dare ask me anything, but also I have plenty of time to do those non work related things. WFH is sweet.

That is a significant "problem" and you definitely shouldn't burden any of your providers of work with it, not when they've got their own work to be doing 🤔

They're not even supposed to be here! (Hat tip to Dante Hicks and Clerks)

That is the worst. What, they just showed up and said that it was either today or 15 years from never? I don't know if anyone has ever been brave enough to tell a tradie that now is not a convenient time.

Would it be quality work? And I'd just like to point out that I'm "working" right now. I manage about a sentence, then drift off to some distraction. Then wrangle myself back again for another pitiful few words. I figure that it's better than nothing, and means that I'm that much closer to having it done.

Not even due today? How perplexing.

Must be some unspoken law betwixt tradies with regards to their timekeeping and our general use of GMT.

I’d give it a miss tonight JB. No matter how hard you try to concentrate, the fact that the tradies showed up today will be tugging to gain the attention of your thoughts.
