It is definitely a weird thing being published in Australia by a publisher from the UK. The Shattered Skies officially dropped everywhere in the British Empire and her subject dominions today, and I've been busy doing promo work, but it's all online and mostly organised by my US publishing house.
I did go into the city this morning, but only to see my dermatologist as I mentioned yesterday. I got a clean bill of health from him. Woo Hoo! No melanomas have come back, just a couple of little blemishes that he's going to freeze off in three months when the Omicron peak has hopefully passed.
It was super quiet in the city. I didn't go right into the centre of town, but I could see as I drove to the surgery that there were very few people about. I guess everybody has decided to lock themselves down. Normally I would’ve dropped into Pulp Fiction to sign copies, but it just seems, I don't know, irresponsible to do so right now. In fact most of today would normally have been given over to driving around town, signing copies and schmoozing with bookstore owners and staff. It's one of those things you only get to do every couple of years, and I really enjoy it. But Miss Rona says no.
We can safely hang out here, however.
And as some of you have already grabbed your copies and dived straight in, should you have any questions as you're reading, drop them into the comments below, and I will devote a separate entry to them.
I’ve not found your T Swift reference yet, but I did meet “Prosecutor Major Skomo.” I LOLd very loudly at that one. Well played sir, not worthy etc 🙌🏻😎
I too am not familiar with the T.Swift ouvre and thus had no idea! Maj. Skomo also raised a chuckle, as did the cameo by Threshy aka Trev'r as Number 6!
I'm excited to see this- having launched a couple, this is a big day! No hardcover for me, though, until next week, and I consider myself fortunate to have that. I can't even imagine the nightmare publishers are going through right now with snarled supply chains, random lockdowns, etc.
good read JB, I liked the transition to new characters, conflicts and intrigue. tried so hard to find that T Swift reference....but no good. might have to read it again. I thought the tripping ballz reference was the the Beastie Boys remake of Fight for right (revisited) by the SNL crowd!
Is there a handy-dandy summary of The Cruel Stars somewhere? Found lots of reviews but no spoilertastic summaries. Ploughed through the first few chapters of Shattered Skies last night and was struggling to remember the who, what and why of everything. Also, nerdy author question: when you use a word like "drekar", which almost nobody (i.e. me) knows the meaning of, do you feel compelled to explain it or just assume that uptight word nerds (i.e. me) will look it up and everyone else will fly past it like a teeny-weeny speed bump? Thanks!

Intellect Number 6 is my new favourite 😂

I finished it last night and did an 88 star review on the fruit company's book store. I need to talk about it with others 😬
Ordered from Amazon . Bezos needs another rocket
and JB needs a cardigan…
Another amazing book, can't wait for book 3. Only 18 months to go according to my preorder. Cry....
Will there be an Audible version at some point?

loved the SKMO referencetoo, epic!
Was the Tripping Ballz reference a nod to Dr Y and Beeso's podcast?
You may very well think so. I couldn’t possibly comment.
Ploughed through it in two days - it was fantastic.
Thank you very much, JB.
Grazie. Now off with you, away to write my 88 star review!
Done, my Dark Master - the Beast of Bezos (U.K) only allows 5 stars, but I posted 17.6 of them.
This is why you’re my favorite three point something times over
I feel special - yet at the same time, cheap and dirty….
I was going to save up TSS for my camping trip next week but I accidentally read the first chapter this arvo.
Uhoh
Impatiently waiting for the Kindle version to drop next week :D
Might be there now. Some American friends have it already.
