I can't believe I've never seen it either.

The Midvale School for the Gifted cartoon, of the gifted child pushing against the door clearly marked 'pull' is the ultimate expression of "I feel seen AND attacked". IT ME 😫

For me it's in the position as a timeless classic as the 'greatest wikipedia edit of all time' https://psbattles.blogspot.com/2021/07/the-single-greatest-wikipedia-edit-of.html

I've ended up doing similar with Calvin and Hobbes (clicked a FB link etc....). Not complaining mind you.

Love it . Tons of favs of the Far Side. One I remember was his recollection of family vacations. Sitting in the dark in the back of a station wagon on the spare tire. He’s the best

man, i get that nostalgic feeling when i come across a Larson. But i was a bit baffled when i saw his website go up and read about his unswerving desire to pull all of his stuff of the web. It sounded like he was disney level of rage about it (but without the significant budget).

This was dated 2019 https://www.thefarside.com/about/48/a-letter-from-gary-larson and i cant help but feel like it conjures up an old man sitting in a wicker wheelchair shaking his fist at those darned kids. For some reason this penguin one doesnt ring a bell with me either. I wonder if it was a limited release and mainly in the US and didnt reach these shores in a meaningful way. Or is it the complete opposite of the Mandela Effect where people don't remember something that actually existed. There's a few ripoffs getting around out there . . . . . sorry, i should say very similar. I came across a guy called Scott Hilburn that does very similar style single panel cartoons. There's even an australian guy called Tim Whyatt in the same boat.

I'm hard pressed to distinguish between, the very popular picture of a deer with a target on his chest with his friend commenting 'Bummer of a birthmark Larry' and one of the few Larson said was based on real life, which was a picture of the two feet of someone lying on their back in a doorway beneath a pullup bar placed in the door frame and a sizeable dent in the top of the door frame.

Bummer of a birthmark was the first far side I ever saw. Maybe it was because I was 14. Maybe it was because it was comic genius. Whichever it was, I was honestly weeping with laughter for a solid hour.
