This is the one that follows me when I try to walk the dogs. I‘ve learned to lock him in the house. The other day, however, Jane took care of securing the prisoner. She locked him in our bedroom which is at the front of the house. I looked over my shoulder as I was leaving with Ted for his walk and saw her at the window, trying to press her head through the crack. The window was latched, so the opening was too small. Or so I thought.
Less than a minute later, I'm standing in the middle of the road with Ted, being swooped by two magpies and a minah bird. It really put the zap on my head.
“Is it fucking September or something?” I thought.
Then I heard the jingle of the murder bells at my heel.
This calico criminal had unlatched the fucking window, jumped down nine feet and was sitting there looking at me like, “Where are we going?”
Congratulations! You got a free physics lesson in how cats are a non Newtonian liquid 😻
How did you expect to undertake a walk without adequate supurrvision? Seriously, buy a harness and a lead, and take the cat with you. She'll probably take you for a walk.
What you need is a lead. Once you put that on the cat it will not want to walk anywhere. Otherwise just embrace the whole thing. I'm sure the cat could find its way home. Isn't there some show that tracked cats around the hood, and the owners were very surprised about how far they roamed or what they got up to?
Those furry bastards roam more than you'd believe. Before she was Permanently Confined, I was getting concerned calls from folks who'd "resuced" the Small White Jerk from places up to 3k away. Utterly ridiculous.
My now 11 year old Self Rescuing Kitten is a wanderer. I tried keeping him contained and tried teaching him to walk on a leash and he just sat there and stared at me like "you know I'm a cat right?" Thankfully as he's gotten older he doesn't roam far, at least I don't think he does!
My latest problem is that the 1 year old kitten has discovered that the overgrown lot across the road appears to have a colony of rats and mice and so she's having a great time indulging in wholesale slaughter, which has prompted Nibbler to rouse himself and go show her how it's done. The other night he very urgently presented me with a live mouse, in a one upmanship triggered by the kitten having brought home a rat that she was determined to play with before showing me her prize. Thankfully I was able to rescue and release both of them, but I was not really in the mood for an unscheduled game of "NO! Put it down! No wait, catch it before it runs under the couch!"
We had one feline visitor who just walked in, hopped up on the sofa and went to sleep. Luckily there was a number on the tag, so a few texts later the mystery was solved and the cat eventually left and went home.
There was! Wasn't it a BBC doco tracking the cats in an English village and how they all marked out and respected each other's territories, while some owners discovered their Feline Overlord who slept 23 out of 24 hours spent that hour awake patrolling the woods miles from home?
I am convinced that the only creature more able to escape confinement, outflow through tiny spaces and with more vindictive nature than a cat is an Octopus.
I still remember the chaos when my daughter was born 19 years ago.. Two weeks early, so everyones routine was bent out of shape.
I got home after the most surreal day of my life to find an overanxious dog and a cat whose whole attitude was "where the fuck have you been?".
I needed a walk to gather myself (and to pick up the car), and doggo needed one too.
We got about a kilometer from home when I heard this "miaow?'. .. I spent the remainder of my walk with a pissed off feline tucked under one arm, and the pooch trying to wrench my arm out of its socket via the leash.... I can laugh about it now...
Years back we had a small Pekingese dog, and a large black. I’d take dog for short walk and the cat would follow along, head butting the dog to get him to go home! These days we have two cats in our small flat. They both like the balcony and the older cat has only fallen off twice! He doesn’t go far Ashe is a scaredy cat…if I show him the cat lead he bolts and hides, same if the cat carrier comes out for a vet visit. The younger one is adventurous, happily wanders about outside on the lead at her pace, and her favourite game is dashing out into the hallway when the front door is opened. She goes for a gallop then flops on the floor.

They're lucky they're so bloody cute.

Yep. That's how it goes.
Is that any way to talk about a cat that graciously decided to take you for a walk? Oh wait, did you think you were in charge? LOL
Gold.

Nth-ing "just take her for a walk too". Although you might need a little pram for when she decides she is Done.
The eyes betray her. Behold Eris ...Greek goddess of chaos
what a clever kitty tho'
