This bit in The Conversation reminds me of that time I was attending some protest in the city, way back in the 1980s, and I was hungry, so I bought a whopper from Hungry Jack’s.
My wife and I went to a permaculture farm on the outskirts of Canberra many years ago. We did feel a little guilty scarfing down some hungry jacks (the food of the well intentioned guilty?) before going out and touring the property.
Clearly a bit tactless if it was a protest against factory farming, JB.
But if it was for something else, like expressing solidarity with the people in Poland and East Germany, then maybe, y'know, the person challenging you forgot that it takes all sorts and she can't expect everyone to be perfectly aligned on every issue. She probably feels a bit of a numpty about it now, anyway.
It was a free speech demo. I got arrested for holding up a piece of paper reading 'Free speech'. But to be honest I was glad to get into the paddy wagon to escape the vegan roasting.
oooh that reminds me - you need to change this website to something more planet friendly like LactoseFreeMockBurgerGothic or add a *does not contain any meat or dairy but definitely a few 12th century like crenallations and vaulted ceilings.
Late last year met a group of "retired" farmers at a local cossie club and the conversation got round to oat milk and meat analogues. One of the older women complained at length about how "plant based" foods were impacting farmers livelihoods. Had to explain to her that plant based meant someone was growing the ingredients - ya know, like farming. Pastoral farming. Eventually I think she got it but it was hard work getting her there..
Don’t know what its like there but being an activist here is a pretty tough gig . Watch what you’re eating , dont drink out of a plastic water bottle or use plastic straws, god forbid you use the wrong pronoun, goes on and on. Who’s offended the worst today has become our national f’n sport
I can't decide whether more people are actually offended now than before, or whether it's just the "call-out culture" that has got everyone in your face about it, rather than keeping their umbrage to themselves. I understand the argument, but I think that empirically it's having a net negative impact...
It is wobbling a bit. If I recall correctly part of the problem was the CEO of one of the biggest companies attacking some guy in a carpark and biting his nose off. Not good for the brand.

I wish these culture wars would finish with the last one before they declare a war on the next one. Its a bit hard to keep up.
The Left should spend more time eating meat instead of itself tbh.

That's the Bjelke-Petersen era, right?
When walking three-abreast was an illegal street march.
These days we're just happy to assume that it's a throuple.

I feel like I read something recently about the lab grown meat industry being in decline. An idea too soon perhaps.

They need to get starter cells from somewhere
Ooh, Vicar, you are awful.
