Humans as salty snacks is still my working theory, along with the robot dogs actually being devices piloted (as per the original) by intelligences cool and unsympathetic, but definitely not vast. Think the Hitchhiker's side gag of a fearsome alien invasion descending on Earth, but due to a terrible miscalculation of scale, the entire battle fleet being swallowed by a small....dog! Spooky crossover!
I'm really enjoying the modern twist on this adaption, even if it's not faithful to the HG Wells original. The diverse cast and characters are hugely enjoyable and I'm trying very hard not to get attached to anyone for the reasons you stated in your review!
I watched the final episode of the new War of the Worlds on SBS catch-up last night. It's been a pretty good/gripping series, but it "finished" so slightly and inexplicably that I couldn't really believe that that was the end, until I checked the synopsis which insisted that EP8 was indeed the final episode. So many unfollowed-threads. So much WTF in the last scene. Oh, well.
Thank you JB!! The comment about "your fave rare b-sides compilation by some super obscure Berlin heroin punk band" - finally someone calls these wankbadgers on their shitty choices in music. Last time I saw one of those musical numpties post this shite, I replied with a made up band and album name, only to get the comment that they loved them too. Musically retarded asshats. As for the series, enjoying it for what it is.....
Definitely along for the ride for this one. Been feeling a bit let down by nothing catching my eye lately. Kid14 was interested as well - she was particularly interested in the history of the original and the infamous radio play.
I binged watch the entire first season when Apple TV+ had Epix free for a month in the US. It's so good, I'll probably actually pay for Epix when Season 2 is out.

I dunno. I am a bit if a purist with WotW, not having Olgilvy say his line then get toasted at the commons?
The irony is that Brittain had more wins against the martians than currently with Brexit.....
This sounds great.
Wow that sounds perfect, will definitely check it out once the whole season drops.
