I enjoyed the book, insufficiency of zombies but I thought that about The Raod. Tim W in a recent interview seemed pretty pissed about how Australia is being shite when it comes to carbon emissions.
I started reading this a couple of days ago (only about 130 pages in, so at about the 25% mark!), and I was increasingly thinking of you, JB... Glad that it's on your radar, and will be interested to see what you think of it (and for that matter, what I think of it, once I get to the end!).
I dunno about any author who doesn't use quote marks to show that someone is speaking. Makes it seem like they're trying to do literature, rather than tell a story.
I had the same issue with Prophet Song by Paul Lynch. Annoyed me at first, but once I got into the flow, I didn't notice. It think it helps to increase the tension and brings you in closer to the protagonist's POV. Excellent book.
Well written, well read and I heard what we all know. Our world is ending. Sure as the earth turns, Tim Winton has turned his childhood nightmare (as he reports in The Monthly, an Oz magazine), to the most necessary of alarms.
It is a book written with passion, and it burns. Burns. Burns.

I had originally read the title of this piece as Tim Winton improves with attitude (and I stand by that assessment)
I read the quote "looking for the new Tim Winton" and eagerly awaited the moment JB stepped forward.
"But I wasn’t looking for another heart breaking work of staggering genius, so I moved on."
A very relatable dilemma. If this turns out to be a heart breaking work of staggering genius about the end of the world I'm going to be annoyed 😂

heaven forfend anyone accuses Australia's Tim Winton of doing literature. That'll be Patrick White your thinking of.
Believe me, I rarely, if ever, think of Patrick White.
Patrick Who?
Patrick Whote
I listened to this on Audible.

I say, read it if you dare
And try not to despair.
There is hope in it but it’s hard fought for.
