I promised myself I wouldnt read, view, listen to or in any way consume a single data point of reporting, analysis, wishcasting, whatever about the US election this week.
that's one thing that was good about the old days. You get home and turn the tv on for half an hour to get the news (or i guess the radio). And then you went on about the rest of your night. The constant access wears you down
I did a podcast with an average American voter living in Ohio who shall remain nameless since he didn't want the local chapter of the Patriot Militia turning up on his doorstep (because then he'd have to shoot them), but he may be familiar to denizens of the blog. Spoiler alert, he thinks the Republicans are going to have a very bad day. Here's hoping:
It’s bad enough that ‘news’ seems to be mostly disaster-porn-bait these days. And the US election is a particularly virulent and pernicious sub-category.
I had a quick look at my usual sources (ABC News app & The Conversation) - had to turn them off because it felt like doom scrolling the US election.
Thank goodness there’s a limited number of headlines that they’ll display on the home page.
I wish I had that kind of fortitude but I have been catastrophising non-stop since I started reading coverage this morning. And I am sitting at work feeding endless bites and takes into my veins like a fucking junkie and it is not good for me. Will I stop? No. Can I stop? Also no.
Thankfully I've been in that happy alternative to doing work, meetings, most of the day, which means I can surreptitiously check the results, but then I also have to stop myself from letting any of my existential horror show because it would be out of context for sprint planning 🥺
Man, I made the right call there.
is there an election today?

Don't turn on the tele or radio then. Best leave phone and all other devices off too. It's bloody everywhere.

The angst y’all are showing crack me up.
I’m checking from flyover country (Missouri), just another fascist, deplorable piece of garbage watching Fox News.
One way or another, everything will be okay.
😁
so what cocktail did you start with at 10am this morning ....

I am not doomscrolling.
