Started okay. Took the dogs for a walk. Did my weights. Cooked up some scrambled eggs. Tried these weird ‘smoked eggs’, too. Can’t say they tasted especially smokey, but they were very dirty, so there’s that, I guess.
Had plans to lean into WW 3.1 all day… and then I got a phone call. First, from my mother, who was crook as a dog and needed to get to the doctor, possibly the hospital. Then, shortly after that, from Jane, who’s own mum had taken a fall last night and couldn’t be reached this morning.
The day went sort of sideways, hard, after that. In the end, they were both fine, but I spent half the day in the car rather than at the keyboard. (And getting the car was an adventure in itself because Jane had driven herself into the city today.)
I decided when I got home at two that I wouldn’t start work because I wouldn’t get anywhere with it. By the time I’d done all of the priming, it’d be time to get dinner ready. Luckily I had a day off on the whiteboard. (I give myself a free day for every ten days of unbroken writing. I don’t always take them, but today I did).
For my half day ‘off’, I read a novel for a panel I have to do at the Brisbane Writer’s Festival tomorrow. So I guess I sort of worked. But I’m looking forward to getting back to the keyboard in the morning.
Sorry to hear about the Mums.... but Smoked Eggs? How's that work? Chickens doing darts in the coop? I know that might work given what they eat can flavour the eggs.
Good to hear they're OK JB
All I can say is that life is what happens when you're making other plans... Hope all the family are well.
Gosh apart from all the running around there’s the stress of making sure everyone is ok! Glad it all worked out and that the Mums are all right.

Family always comes first. They're lucky that you can shift your plans around (and I'm sure everyone knows it). All the best.
