Ah I see the problem here; you were trying to sleep at 2am, rather than working on something splodey with a head full of cheap whisky and a tummy full of hot chips and then sleeping it off in the morning once all the sploding was done.
Thanks to daylight savings I had a 7am training session on peer coaching to attend this morning, so OF COURSE the cats decided my bed was the logical launch pad for 5:40am zoomies when my first alarm, the one I tend to snooze for half an hour before my second alarm kicks in to remind me to get out of bed, was due to go off at 6am. Normally the little delinquents are happily snoozing on the foot of the bed until my alarm goes off, but they clearly got the memo about my early start today and decided to "help" 😾🐈⬛🐈⬛
So perhaps the answer is to not beat yourself up about suddenly being awake in the middle of the night? If tired, sleep more, IMO. Napping after lunch is especially beneficial, I reckon.
According to a Japanese legend, when you can not sleep at night it is because you are awake.

It's been a long time since I slept through the night so I sympathize JB. May it be rare.
it seems to be catching. I had one of those last night.
I, of course, had an excellent night's sleep, at least until ms insomniac dragged herself off the sofa and into bed at about 5am.
