"and even has the unexpected advantage of gently massaging my eyes through the night" well that's just disturbing. Are you sure that's the sleep mask and not some sort of sleep demon?

No curtains or blinds? Oh no. Oh no indeed. I aim for full darkness to get a full night of sleep. In summer, to get the last hour or so I have tried sleep masks but found that just a dark t-shirt loosely draped over my head works best.

I'm sure I don't look strange at all.

I used to put a patrol cap over my face. Only got out of the habit when I quit wearing patrol caps, and it looked weird having some gross Army thing hanging around on the coat rack.

Love me some awesome neighbors. Mine decided one day to torch the old rental house relatively close to my garage...and was indignant when the fire department came to put the fire out. Years later, the block walls still testify to his wayward judgment. But at least I don't have gulag lights shining through my window. An eyesore? OK, tolerable. Flying saucer lights? Nope.

It might be a useful tool if a dreaded migraine threatens.

I've considered getting one of these sleep masks, but I move a lot in my sleep and I am certain I would throttle myself with it. Which is not necessarily a problem.
