I’ll probably write something long and thoughtful about this for the Boob on Friday, but today is my birthday. The big Six-Oh-My-Fucking-God. I was going to just have a normal workday because the bills don’t care about these things. They just keep coming. But so do the years - until they don’t. So, I decided to at least have a Rancho Relaxo day at work. A bit of writing, a bit of editing, a lot of thinking.
I’ve mostly been pondering the next few years and what I’d like to do with them. Assuming I don’t get ambushed by melanoma, I got a few stories left in me, but not an unlimited amount. It’s probably time to start picking and choosing where I make my efforts.
But first, Imma eat this birthday brownie.
Might have a read of Steve’s latest too. I already got a look at the first draft, and loved it. But I’m professionally interested to see how it turned out after the edit.
It’s not my birthday but I too had a brownie, in a sundae, with ice cream and fudge sauce. It was much much bigger than I expected from the brief description. I wish I could post a pic.
of course happy birthday and many more are wished for you, depending on which choose-your-apocalypse the world suffers. As a reader its trying to work out the cross over point between reading life left and to be read pile height.
Happy Hatching Day JB! Brownie? Ah....ok... that may put a bit of colour into the day! Thanks for the reminder about the Stirling book too - I should like to add that to my To Read stack.
ahh, happy birthday. The milestone ones seem like a big deal but its all arbitrary. Doesnt stop us from doing something though. I'm just over 10yrs behind you. Big bash planned in January. Mid week bdays also lend themselves to that special kind of "meh" that seems to fade a bit when the day occurs either on the weekend or adjacent to. If the weather is nice take a stroll in the leafy neighbourhood (not at school finishing time as the sound of kids will only break the calm as kids are wont to do).
Behind the times but belated happy cake (or brownie) day. What's it like being 60? Anything I should be knowing or doing in the last 8 months before that number appears on some birthday card addressed to me?
Was debating whether to pick up Stirling's newest. On your recommendation then.
I'd like to recommend The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett. It's a murder mystery in a fantasy world regularly beset by Kaiju. I really, really enjoyed it.
HB JB
Hope it goes well.

Happy birthday JB. The National Film and Sound Archive is putting on a showing of Felafel on the 11th… wonder if it’s in honour of your birthday. 🎂

Soapy Bathday!
Happy birthday, sir. Wishing you many more healthy & happy years ahead.
Happy birthday to ya. Significant number or not, it is another day you are still breathing. Good excuse to enjoy some guilt free pleasuring time.
Happy Birthday JB, may you enjoy many more.

Stirling book!
Happy birthday and the book is quite good. Just finished it yesterday.

Happiest of birthdays to you JB. The bills may not respect your birthday but you should; take some time and enjoy yourself ❤️
