Actual end of the world? Or just society?

The Pixies at the end of Fight Club seemed a mastestroke, or is it just nostalgic unconscious bias?

If we are talking about societal breakdown, there must a wealth of punk tracks to suit, Jim Carroll's "People who died" looks a winner.

Almost forgot, "Nice boys" was covered by G'nR' but I prefer the original by Rose Tattoo..

Contains the line"... out in the street the garbage lies, protected by a million flies..."

When I was a teenager , wearing the clothes and lifestyle of the end of the world , Punk Rocker. The soundtrack was provided by The Dead Kennedys and Fear. Weirdly the Dead Kennedys concerns and lyrics are being played out in real time right now. So I'd suggest Dead Kennedys Soup is Good Food or Green Day's American Idiot. https://youtu.be/KgY9rFbetpo?si=CnP30I1r1SWLDW0p

"The revolution will not be televised" - Gil Scott-Heron

"Running" - Gil Scott-Heron

(Heck, Gil has a bunch of tracks that seem appropriate to the times, all these years later, like "Whitey on the moon").

Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt".

"So falls the world" - Ulver

"Blackstar" - David Bowie

"Apples from a tree" - Mark Lanegan (but the whole of Straight Songs of Sorrow wouldn't go astray for the occasion).

Jeff Wayne's "War of the worlds"?

"Worlds End" - The Reels

"Mad World" - Tears for Fears

"There she goes, my beautiful world" - Nick Cave

"Destruction makes the world burn brighter" - Chelsea Wolf

Some of those describe more personal ends than global, so you might disqualify them.

I’m old AF in that I know none of these songs.

I would recommend “The End” - The Doors

“Sympathy for the Devil” - The Rolling Stones

and “Knocking on Heaven’s Door” - Bob Dylan

Coming in late with a couple of left field / controversial suggestions, as most of the really good ones have already been mentioned.

Always look on the bright side of life

Closing time

We didn’t start the fire

Oddly enough, the 1812 overture comes to mind. While it was composed as a celebration, something about finishing it with the blast of cannons somehow seems appropriate.

I just realised - going out with a bang 🙄

Can't go past a bit of Death Metal for this subject. e.g. Progenies of the Great Apocalypse by Dimmu Borgir, or indeed the song Dimmu Borgir by the same band. Or perhaps a bit less wordy tune like Thunderhorse by Dethklok. Slaves Shall Serve by Behemoth. Headhunter Halfmoon by Marduk. That'll do for now!
