The response to the assassination of Brian Thompson says it all.
In some ways the re-election of Trump says it all too. Yes, there's a subset of idiots who think he's their guy and he actually gives a shit about them, and that's tragic. But there's also a subset who voted for him knowing he's a grifter con artist who cared nothing for them, but they voted for him because they knew he cared nothing for the rest of society either, and he would turn that society on its head in his quest to line his pockets and the pockets of his mates. And in doing so he would upend the status quo that condemns this subset to a life of either grinding poverty or grinding hustle to stay out of poverty, and anything, even becoming a feudal warlord in a Mad Max style hellscape as society and the climate collapses would be better than another 30, 40 years of the endless treadmill of trying to keep your head above water and survive (because nobody is thriving except for the billionaire arseholes). And at least in the Mad Max hellscape you might have an opportunity to get ahead that does not exist now.
We all think we're going to survive a zombie apocalypse, with style, double tapping and headshotting, but in reality we'll all be dead inside half an hour.
Yep; my BFF's husband who's in special forces has already made it clear that HE will be fine in the event of the zombie apocalypse, and I have made it clear that I will be unlikely to survive through the collapse of civilisation. I'm a knowledge worker, once the interwebs fall over I'll be useless 😂
yeah I think those types over estimate their ability to survive without community. Ask him if he knows how to darn socks? then we have a measure of how well he will last.
yeah - i was reading the news today about the police commissioner talking about the response and it was almost like she was about to make a revelation. Climate change is going to be the pressure that pops the pimple.
Read the whole article. Geez we’re a mile away from ‘middle out’ economics right now. Obama’s legacy shrinks every time I read stuff like this from that era. We can all see pitchforks now.
Except it probably won't be pitchforks, if it goes full revolution. It might be Hellfire missiles lobbed through G. Hancock's bedroom window, but it might be security teams whose loyalties will be compromised by their concerns for their own family. Hospo staff who carry a "just in case" supply of methanol. Random citizens who shank an oligarch they recognise at a breakfast cafe. It's probably going to get ugly.
Thomas Piketty's new book (not yet read it: "Nature, Culture and Inequality") is reputed to argue coherently that inequality is not an intrinsic element of societies.Personally I'd prefer to side-step the swing back to pre-revolution France, despite the clear evidence of the direction of travel.
I read this morning that some group in New York convened to figure out how to better protect the CEOs.
Some have proposed a dedicated hotline, others have declared the act terrorism. I personally favour the Dolly Parton solution for the rich, don't be assholes with your wealth.

He does know! He does all the sewing in their household! 😄
There is hope for the future then.

We need to eat one rich oligarch, maybe two and this problem will be fixed.
I think it was first dog on the moon who suggested that many of the world's ills could be cured with a mere 5kg of billionaire pâté...
mmmmmm billionaire pate
I’ll have a thigh
a bit fatty, try an arm
I look to Ben Elton’s book Stark.
The billionaires are into space and colonising the moon and Mars.
It all fits 😜…
I thought of this yesterday!

That awkward moment when everyone suddenly agrees with Stochastic terrorism.
It's me, I'm the problem.
I'll assist with the pitchforking, but hard pass on the eating.
JVL is always right.
