i have this theory that the generation monikers need to be static and we move through them as we age. Because its age that defines a generations carefree attitude, optimism or grumpiness etc. (this is of course ignoring the bullshit of the whole thing in the first place). I had an internet argument once (i was vulnerable and in a weak spot - it hit me at just the wrong time) about a 'friend' going on about how he finds millennials lazy and require "different management techniques" and backed it up with some bullshit list of traits millennials have. I had a hunch and tracked down when the list first appeared - back in the mid 90s when the internet was starting to take off and it was written by a boomer who thought GenX (the generation i and the friend were in) were a bunch of lazy no good layabouts. It didnt go down well when i pointed it out and backed it up with Millennials are "like, really old now and have kids, mortgages and everything". They have this mystical ever young real estate in the minds of the generations that preceded it. Of course i'm at an age now where i get grumpy when i see a bunch of young whipper snappers talking up their best life living out of a van and seeing the world. Until i remember they probably poop in a bucket and the van alternately smells like poo, dettol, and dog (because they always have a dog).

I watched an interview with famed record producer, David Foster. He said, it’s not a widely acknowledged fact, but when singers turn 42 we have to drop the key down half a step. That’s when they can’t hit those same high notes.
