I destroyed my favourite pot last night. I didn’t even think this was possible. But apparently I do not know my own power.
I was making a chicken korma and I needed to brown the onions. God knows how many times I’ve done this before. I put the oil in the pan swirled it around, increased the temperature for the initial sear and turned back to the bench to finish gathering all of my ingredients. Maybe I got distracted. I don’t know, I don’t remember.
The next thing I do remember is a popping noise. I frowned. What the hell was that? I hadn’t put anything in the pot.
It was the enamel exploding of the base. Just a small explosion, but enough to ruin the pot and ensure I couldn’t use it again.
Maybe there was a small flaw in there, something that had crept in over 25 years of use. Maybe that area didn’t get a coating of oil. I don’t know. But I am very sad. I loved that pot.
Oh no! They are such great pots. Expensive, but worth it in terms of cost per use….. They do seem to have great customer service, though, from what I’ve read - may be worth getting in touch? There may be a shiny new pot in it for you.
Next time, take the sleep mask off mate.
