Apparently, Elon Musk has taken a break from racing Kanye West to the admissions counter of the nearest nut hatch and now owns Twitter. He’s sacked the C-suite execs and plans to sack a heap more.
Everyone with an interest is either terrified that Trump is about to come back, or hard in the pants because Trump is about to come back.
The conventional view is that the bird site is doomed.
An unconventional view, by Jon Gruber at Daring Fireball, is that although it’s unlikely, Mush could actually save the place:
I’m more optimistic about Twitter’s future than I have been in years. Don’t get me wrong, I think there’s a very real chance that under Musk’s leadership, Twitter might break apart and fade into irrelevance. But Musk himself notes the same thing! Keeping Twitter open to a wide range of content, but making it easy to control what content you see, as user, is a worthy ideal. Pulling it off, that’s the trick. But as a privately-held company Musk is free to make changes that move Twitter away from being optimized for engagement and towards being optimized for enjoyment.
I guess we’ll see, but he’s not wrong about the engagement/enjoyment thing.
back when i was on the site i had his name muted - made the experience marginally better. He has a lot of fan boys that could get rabid if you dare criticise/question anything he did. I suspect they were drinking the trickle down koolaid :)
I probably wont be back but will be interesting to see how it goes. Are the puritans leaving in droves to mastodon or is there some other alternative? It's like vero and instagram. Vero in a lot of ways is better (bots are minimal, solicitations also, you can post in whatever format you want and the pictures seem better quality and not compressed) but every time i post on instagram these days i get bots swarming like mosquitoes. Just not sure it will go the distance like the flagship apps FB/IG/twitter/tiktok?
There is always so much angst about what might or might not happen.

Eh billionaires own all the tech platforms and media. The fragile wokesters don’t like him . It’s good to shake it up
The *blurst* of Twitter? Stupid monkey!
