Every now and then, I make the mistake of letting someone on this accursed internet know that I have a Nespresso and that I quite like it.
Inevitably coffee pod shaming follows, usually from some lentil-eating twit about my wretched earth-killing selfishness.
But now, science demands an apology for JB
When it comes to making a cup of coffee, capsules have a reputation for being environmentally unfriendly, as they are often hard to recycle.
But new research by the University of Quebec in Canada suggests that pods may not be as wasteful as preparing coffee using a traditional coffee maker.
Flavourful, well-balanced coffee scientists have proven that I was right all along and that these judgmental and censorious pod scolds were wrong, wrong, wrong. The coffee boffins found that American filtered coffee is the worst. And it’s bad for the environment too. French press comes in second on the planet-killing leader board. And pods are a distant third because…
The amount of coffee inside each capsule is controlled, which prevents overconsumption.
Can you put 'coffee' and 'overconsumption' in the same sentence?
And which geniuses thought "that American filtered coffee is the worst" was ever in contention? That's the sort of thing you stick in a scientific coffee report template.
With improved recycling and pods, things can only get better for you.
I agree with my learned colleague above "found that American filtered coffee is the worst" didn't need environmental scientists to tell you that. Anyone who has tasted it could have told you that. One comment left me baffled "The amount of coffee inside each capsule is controlled, which prevents overconsumption". You can overconsume coffee? I understand what each word in that sentence means but putting it all together and it makes gibberish.
I have a pod machine for when I just cant go the 300m to the best coffee shop in the Burg. I appreciate the Pod thing but do they come with enlightened conversation and music recommendations, no. Do they provide me with a feeling of community, no. Do they have their own range of merch which let's me feel just a little bit cool, no. Do they know my order as soon as I approach the coffee, no. To quote the great philosopher, The Cookie Monster "Pods are sometimes food".
Yeah it’s tough to be told you’re destroying the planet by folks flying around in private jets having someone grind their cat sh#% coffee beans for em. Truth to power ! Pass the Kcup

In a non-recyclable cup, made from the skin of baby dolphins.
Please.

i sit on a much higher moral hill* to sneer down from - i don't even drink coffee : )
*please ignore my wood fired heater i have on my hill to keep my hands and butt warm.
The earth will be a ball of flaming lava before they pry my Nespresso from my charred hands.

Love me some coffee pods. The best part is what you cite; the consistency from cup to delightful cup.
