I feel seen, in the Orwellian sense.

I checked in on john Gruber's daring fireball blog this morning to find he'd run an experiment with ChatGPT. He asked to tell him what it knew about him based on their previous conversations. The reason he did this is because the maximum bot has been learning about its users via their conversations for awhile now. He was a bit taken aback by how much it had figured out about him.

So I asked it the same question: “Describe me based on all our chats — play it straight.”

This was the answer. Parts of it feel a little bit like a robot is blowing smoke up my arse:

That made for weirdly uncomfortable reading. And then I asked what I knew about my Fitness routine:

Gruber was impressed with ChatGPT’s reading of his personal arc. Not so much with Siri, when he asked the same question:

But it does make me wonder about the Orwellian levels of mass psychological control the AI companies will be able to exercise over us in the future, given that we will probably be marinating in their technology for our whole lives, and they will know exactly what buttons to push to send us in this direction or that.
