My personal fave:

Manager: "I love to read"

Me: "Oh yes, what sort of things, what are you reading right now?"

Manager: "I mainly read self-help/inspirational non-fiction"

Me, in my head: "Ahhhhhh, so much is explained"

funny (depressing) that there are so many of them out there. I also came across a version of a similar theme: meeting a manager replacing a friend (she later became my actual manager a year or two down the track). Stuck across the table at lunch so tried small talk "what kind of music do you listen to?"

"oh i don't really listen to music, i think i have a meatloaf cd somewhere" . . . . . you could hear the crickets in the background at that and i had nothing. It floored me, so i went to find one of those crickets to munch on so i could do something to fill the awkward silence. And it turned out that manager was the one that pushed me out into the world of contracting never to look back at that burning trash pile.

Amazing how people keep shoveling money to these shysters and turds. His comments are unsurprising.
