Had big plans for this week, starting with Sunday when I was going to research and maybe even write the better part of an essay on QAnon. A migraine put paid to that. (Oh noes! Probably beamed into my head by the Deep State). Lined up for some book writing today and… pow. Got blasted with the second barrel.
It sort of worked out though. I had to do a photoshoot for The Guardian and I was supposed to look sombre and brooding.
No fucking worries, govnor!
It cleared by mid afternoon, but I lose about 60 IQ points with these things so rather than try to crank up the book project again (I’m trying to finish the final ZERO DAY novel this week) I decided to let that slide into tomorrow and spend a bit of time here.
Might read a little deeper into the QAnon nutters this evening. Its funny ‘doing the research’ (Q approved joke, there). Even coming at the meta-conspiracy theory forensically, looking to break it down into its constituent parts, you can feel how powerful it must be to everyone who gets sucked in. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, that can’t be consumed and repurposed by this thing. I saw one journo describe it as the Absorbing Man of conspiracy theories.
Absorbing Man is/was one of Marvel’s sillier supervillains, who could absorb the powers of other supervillains and heroes, or the properties of inanimate matter, like steel or uranium. Or even cocaine, in one especially deranged story arc.
Anyway, gonna absorb a few beers and get back to it.
Bit of background that you might find interesting. An article by someone involved in the augmented-reality game business, on the similarity with QAnon breadcrumbs: https://mssv.net/2020/08/02/what-args-can-teach-us-about-qanon/ That article contains a link to (and an image snippet) of a "map" of the theory. As you say: it's everything.
It's really interesting how the "negative space" of human knowledge has been effectively weaponized.
" as the Absorbing Man of conspiracy theories" that's a deep-end geek reference, well done that journalist. de

I read this yesterday, added it straight to my research stack.
Wow!! That is freakin' amazing. I wonder if the whole thing could be trolled by say Masonic symbols relating to the Teletubbies?
That thing's more complex than a biochemical pathways chart
