I finally wrapped up my three-month-long watch of Continuum on Amazon over the weekend. (And immediately plated up the BBC’s last Day of the Triffids adaptation for fun).
It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed a series as much as I did Continuum. Made me think I should go back and finish watching that other Canadian time travel romp, Travellers. Not sure why I dropped out of that one. I think it might have been because it got cancelled and I’m not sure they wrapped up the story.
No such problem with Continuum, although the final season was only six eps rather than the usual 12, so something went on.
Anyway, I loved it bigly. Rachel Nichols’ character, Kira Cameron, was almost Buffyesque in her awesomeness, and her Scooby gang was good too. I like the way the third season tipped everything on its head and pulled a couple of character arcs inside out. It got pretty dark there for a while. Like Buffy coming back from the dead, dark. But the producers earned it in the end.
Interesting to watch a show that’s over a decade old now interrogate the politics of a culture that surrenders to corporate power. It seemed weirdly prescient in that way.
You definitely should watch Travellers. They do finish the story and it's pretty satisfying. Travellers is my TV show version of Perdido Street Station. It's the thing I recommend to everyone.
Oh Travellers is great, it wraps up very satisfyingly. I just finished The Veil on Disney, which was an efficient 6 episode spy thriller with Elisabeth Moss, so I will now look into Continuum.
