I just heard news that Eric Flint has died. This is very sad. Flint was a great writer and a generous soul. The creator of the 1630s alternate history series, he was one first authors who not only let other writers, especially amateurs, play in his story world, he actively encouraged them.
I corresponded with him a bit after Weapons of Choice came out and found him to be a wise and big hearted supporter of anyone who was willing to have an honest go.
His books were great fun and, well, just great.
I mean, look at this cover.
He was possessed of a fiery liberal spirit but not of the partisan antipathy which so often characterises American letters these days.
There are lines and images from his books which stand out in my memory twenty years after he wrote them. I may go back and revisit some of those old titles.
Vale and all that. Great to read and reportedly a first class guy. Missed by those who did and didn't know him alike.
I read 1632 in a C-130 headed east long ago. I'll gladly pour one out for him.
Always interested in his work, meant to read but a little daunted as to where to start.
Mother of Demons. Its not alt-history like the 1600s series. Straight up SF that harkens back to the golden age.
Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out. Well more truthfully add it to my ever growing to_be_read_file.
Damn . I’ve only read a couple of his but I know he was as prolific as Louis Lamour .
