Or it could be. Heard a great idea on… (this is embarrassing) Facebook the other day. Drive in movie theatres where you hook up your speaker (or just Bluetooth the audio to your car) and plug in your EV.
Unsurprisingly the rollout of recharge points hasn’t reached anywhere near critical mass yet and it’s starting to cause real problems, especially in the city. Peeps are driving into work, hooking up to the few chargers available, and just sitting on them all day as parking.
The predictable response has been a call for legislation to ban the practice (rather than investing in the infrastructure needed).
But I love the idea of drive-ins coming back and doubling up as massive charging lots.
Yes, yes, yes, it’s dumb and there are probably a hundred reasons why it wouldn’t work. But I have fond memories of drive-in movies, so fuck that noise.
Yeah- drive-ins used to be a part of the landscape. They still are- as skeletal wasteland structures good as the backdrop to zombie apocalypse films.
The only thing I see wrong with this is the proliferation of EVs with built in screens and streaming apps that let you Netflix while you charge your car, rendering the giant screen and speaker system obsolete.
Just put a charger on every carpark everywhere.
