Been down in Melbourne for a couple of days, marvelling at the weird alter-world weather down here. Also realised that Melbourne’s reputation as the best dressed city in Australia is a lie. There were young fellows in my chosen cocktail wearing shorts and joggers. At night. This will not do.
I’m on a book deadline at the moment. A commissioned project I want to deliver before Christmas, so that meant bringing a lot of gear with me. So much that I decided to leave my Kindle behind because my loadout was getting ridonkulous and since I had the Kindle app on my iPad - why add another device to the haul.
Why?
Because it turns out that reading books on an iPad is doable by suboptimal. The whole time I was on it I felt the nagging draw of a hundred other apps and possibilities trying to steal my focus away from the book. And it was a pretty good book, too. Even if the name - A Tide of Black Steel - was a bit over the top.
It’s well written, good fun, and I’ve been enjoying it on the Kindle. But yeah. Just the possibility of swiping away to something else on the iPad is enough to distract me, it turns out.
"Been down in Melbourne for a couple of days" and I think all agree, Melbourne has been all the better for it.
Does iPad = procrastination temptation on steroids?
Melbourne is usually renowned for 4 seasons in one day. Is it getting worse?
I’d agree that Melbourne generally takes the sartorial crown. Maybe the young fellas were also from out of town. Hopefully they have learnt the error of their ways.
