After a surprisingly tough time finding anywhere open last night (my apologies to Public) I lit out early for breakfast this morning and managed to grab a lonely guy table at Maple and Clove. Had my usual there. The spelt sweet corn waffles with poached googs, avo and salmon.
This will probably be my only feed until I get home later this arvo, so I’m leaning into it with a couple of big milky cappuccinos.
i have never been a big fan of waffles - just never tickled my fancy.
Canberra sounds like all country nsw towns west of the blue mountians - everything open wed-sunday to maximise the tourist dollar and Mon-Tues is the restaurant owners/workers weekend. We've recently had a few big weekends - since covid hordes of sydney tourists come out to see the country and the autumn colours where ever your introduced species of autumn leaf congregate. They swarm back country roads where it is 100km speed limit and you suddenly get the scare of your life when you turn a corner to see some intrepid photo taker bedecked in puffer jacket and jeans standing in the middle of the road.
I am always intrigued and note of the title of eateries, probably from the days of running roleplaying adventures and needing a name for a tavern on the fly. "Maple and Clove" I am trying to imagine the meal which uses those two items. Also name of eateries seem to be vulnerable to puns in their titles, for example; Thai Tanic, Wok this Way, Frying Nemo, to name a few.

I read something recently/saw a photo where a Thai restaurant was called "Thai Near Me' so the googs would place it at the top of the list.
On my last trip to Brisbane I was sorry to see that Bangkok Milton, on Milton Rd, was no longer there.
