The truly headdesking aspect of this was the people arguing that he was required to wear a hi vis shirt as part of OH&S for visiting a mine site, and THAT was why he was wearing a branded shirt with his name embroidered on it, instead of a generic brandless and nameless high vis vest like the resources minister did ON THE SAME VISIT.
Contrast those mental and moral gymnastics with the reaction to Scomo pulling this shit by those same people and.... ugh.

I'm guessing 95% of the people he thinks he's reaching by going full Scomo aren't even engaged in a political sense, and a significant proportion won't even know who he is, and perhaps another significant proportion will think he is Scomo.
My best guess is that it is part of his sophisticated "keep a low profile" strategy: wearing the shirt is what the viewers of the ten and seven news broadcasts he's fronting no doubt expect. Media team probably focus-grouped it.
