Apart from the "ewww" factor, the one thing capitalism has struggled with is catering for any markets that deviate from the norm. So as well as having to deal with shrinking seats and leg room on flights, Humans Of An Unusual Size will then also have to try to find, and rent, clothes that will fit them in countries where their first language may not be spoken. And if they fail, they'll have to rinse their underwear in their hotel room every night for their trip. That's totally not going to end in tears 🙄
Also, have the airlines not grasped the concept of GOING SHOPPING WHILE OVERSEAS? I had an 8 week trip across Hong Kong, Egypt, Jordan and North America in 2018, and deeply startled my father when he came to pick me up from the airport when I got home, because I'd left with a duffel bag and came home with 2 suitcases he'd never seen before.
"because none of my heavy winter gear turned out to be appropriate" for Europe in Autumn.... yah-ish. In the next decade I think we face an unprecedented nightmare. I love how the airlines reaction to this future is "only carry on luggage" and "rent clothes". Not OMG, OMG WTF .
This came up recently when the Weapon_against_society asked if he should start shifting money he gets paid into his superannuation. I said that would be a very sensible and responsible strategy if he thought that our world in 50 years was going to resemble the world we live in now?
We lost a bag on an international flight a couple of years ago. It was our daughter's clothes, and it may well have been that we completely forgot that we had an extra bag to pick up from the carousel, she being 18 months old and the first time we had a third bag checked in...
But anyway, Mrs W wasted a day back at the airport, I had already written it off and went clothes shopping. The bag turned up 3 months later, having spent time in all sorts of exotic locales.
For years my philosophy that I will annoyingly expound to anyone who mistakenly enters my orbit on this subject is that nothing should be in the checked-in bag that you wouldn't be ok with writing off. Nothing sentimental, nothing valuable, nothing essential. In fact, the thing that I'd miss most if my bag went missing would be...the bag. I've travelled with that rucksack for nearly 25 years.
Yeah. Lord knows I've had some bag adventures. I learned quick and early that everything sensitive had to be nailed to your person in your carry-on. Period.
to be fair we thought renting a tux for a B&S ball was okay and then returned to be used again was also okay . . . . some heavy duty cleaning would be needed on those things

I like to travel light, and source stuff wherever I'm going. Bare minimums plus sensitive items.
Imma going rent me some guy’s holey undies next time I travel. Nothing could go wrong surely.
And peeps complain about bedbugs now...just wait.
Oh good lord 😱
Oh, the humanity!
