We're on the opposite side of Port Phillip Bay to Melbourne and we were supposed to get to 44°C too but topped out at 37 pretty early, so a lucky escape. The dry heat helps enormously. I'd be dying if I was still in NSW.
I note that the Guardian had not one mention of "Australia Day", apart from maybe the honors list and AOTY (and even then not the headline), otherwise it was either Invasion Day or 26 Jan. Peeps are over it.
Here in Canberra heading for 40+ today. The saving grace is an overnight minimum of around 17c.
Hydrate and stay out of the sun.
As for that UK passport thing, we're getting little Miss W one as I'm not keen on her being blocked at the border while we could sail through. Seems like it would be overkill, but immigration officials can be a bit touchy, as we have seen.
I had rellies over from the UK last week. Told them that at present I was not able to travel back to the land of my birth due to not renewing my British passport for the last 15 years, and they seemed uninterested in my plight, telling me the UK sucks now, so I sent them up to the Pinnacles in 45 degrees.
Melbourne at least it wsa a dry heat but still... and if I may call B.S on the figures quoted by Vicpol on the Melbourne Invasion day rallies reporting 17,000 HA, even The Saturday Paper reported it as 30,000 meanwhile the march4Australia drew at most 1000 (Vicpol quoted 2000). That's still 1000 Nazis too many but still hearting to witness fewer of these clowns each rally.

It was freezing in the office. Had to go outside to warm up.
One of my team members is visiting her family in Toronto and it is -35 and the snow was so bad it took out power to their neighbourhood
Hmm been snowing here for 3 days and highs in the 20s . I’d take a little heat. So would my Corgi . It’s all relative
