Finally, science turns out to be useful for something. Specifically, science has just confirmed that my natural posture, the indolent slouch, is not, in fact, bad for me or a sign of a bad character.
The great news is that in the past two decades, there’s been a plethora of rigorous clinical studies conducted which have concluded that there’s no relationship between slouching and spinal pain. There’s also no evidence that people who slouch are more likely to suffer with back or neck pain compared to non-slouchers.
There’s also no clear evidence that slouching while sitting at your desk or while using your phone causes damage to the spine...
I’m waiting on the latest updates to confirm that my plan to buy an Apple Vision Pro headset and spend the rest of my writing life reclining in my extra-reclinable office chair is a good idea, but it sounds like one, so Imma probably just go ahead and buy it anyway. Until then, I’m going to lean into my slouching.
