Big TV, Bad Monkey.
I think I mentioned that we finally got around to replacing our old, dead TV. It’d been cactus for a couple of years, but nobody cared because everyone watches their own stuff on iPads now. It’s funny in a morbid way. Used to be that the image of a household staring at a single screen was thought of as a metaphor for our cultural decline. Turned out we had a fair bit more decline in our back pocket.
We’re thinking of having a Rob Reiner marathon over Xmas, which would be the first time in years we’ve all watched the same screen at the same time - although we have watched the cricket at the local bar a couple of times.
Myself, I’ve only been watching two shows on the big screen so far. Pluribus and Bad Monkey. I like both for different reasons. Pluribus is the show du jour, of course, and I have lots of thoughts. But Bad Monkey is just a great adaptation of the Carl Hiassen novel, with Vince Vaughn really nailing the lead and the cinematographer smashing it out of the park with the South Florida scenery. It’s like taking a little holiday every time I plate up an episode. ‘Cept for all the murder and stuff, of course.
The new screen is balls-out amazing. It still feels like staring through a portal into a new reality. I can’t remember what size I got, but it’s monstrous. Just wish I had time watch more.

"time in years we’ve all watched the same screen at the same time".., What like you are Amish? Loving Pluribus hoping it has been renewed for another season - Carol is deeply flawed and so very human.
LOL - who’d have thought a scene from the Castle would reflect family times - “Gong him Red”.
I disappeared down the rabbit hole of researching the tech a few years back, after a hand-me-down plasma screen finally carked it, and managed to find a decent screen from a 2nds seller.
Glad I spent all that time for it to become our child’s gaming screen. We limit screen time, and because our child doesn’t sleep well, we generally don’t watch TV after bedtime, so it rarely gets used as a TV.
Last night I watched it for the first time in months. Caught up on some Media Watch and Disney Star Wars, as one does.
Having said that, we are watching family Xmas movies as a family, which is a nice end of school / year treat. The upscaling on pre-digital movies is pretty decent.
All you need now is the expensive sound bar and 7.1 sound system to go with it, to also sit idly around, while watching shows on smart phones and listening through over ear headphones 🤪
