I dropped Mister Lambright and his daughter to the airport this morning. They’d been staying with us over the last month, sampling life north of the Tweed. It was a good break from my routine, and we got a surprising amount of work done, too.
There were kangaroos, of course. A couple of beach visits. And some beers. But we also knocked over a novella and a couple of individual projects.
I’ve been rattling around my very empty, very quiet office today, trying to get my head back into the solitary writing game.
One thing I learned from Jason while he was here - the efficacy of doing your reader engagement stuff in the morning. I was impressed with his diligence in checking messages and Patreon peeps and blog stuff first up. I’ve always pushed that kind of thing to the back of the day because I wanted to get started on writing. But of course, by the end of the day, I don’t feel much like writing anything else, so more often than not, it just doesn’t get done.
Imma try his approach for the next week or so. See if it makes a difference.
I'm looking forward to this trial of Mr Lambright early morning engagement with reader stuff if for no other reason than it involves me. Yes I realise the world doesn't revolve around me, but I believe it could if it put in a bit more effort.
My view on work prioritisation is mornings are for whatever is the most important, followed by whatever is the hardest. Afternoons are for making things pretty and knocking over little 5 minute tasks.
So it makes perfect sense that I'm here doing this at 10am.
