Quiet at last

It’s been three long, very long weeks, but the scaffolding finally came down around the house this morning. It went up so the roofers could get up top and repair some damage I didn’t even know was up there.

We put an insurance claim in after the cyclone earlier this year — just a small claim for an air vent that got knocked over and let some water into the roof. But when the assessors went up there, they found a massive amount of damage from a hailstorm about ten years ago. We did claim on that storm because a couple of lightning strikes near the house fried half of the electrical equipment inside. But we didn’t realise there was any damage to the roof because we’ve never had any leakage.

Anyway, long story short, the house has been a building site for the past three weeks, and it has been kind of hellish. I gotta confess that despite vowing to myself I wouldn’t let it knock me off course, it knocked me completely the fuck off course, and I am now well behind where I wanted to be on World War 3.3.

It’s been getting me down, actually — really down — but after a final crashing, banging, furious round of heavy metal as the scaffolding came down this morning, silence has finally dropped.

I did some editing on a bunch of chapters this afternoon, and it felt good to get back into the story.

Hopefully tomorrow I can spin up the story engines again and push through to the finish.
